The expanse of buildings lining Park Avenue as it rolls uptown from Grand Central Station to 57th Street epitomizes the evolution of 20th Century architecture from grand Beaux-Arts to the glass sky-scraper of the International Style. Do not expect small and charming lure in this business district where daytime workers move along fast food lines and heavy hitting restaurants host power lunchers. At nighttime a handful of restaurants among the city's fine dining totems thrive in otherwise lifeless streets.
WALKSEE
Eighteen acre complex anchored by the U.N. General Assembly Hall and the Secretariat, a 1959 International Style skyscraper from plans by architect Le Corbusier.
Mies van der Rohe's 1958 bronze and glass curtain walled tower set upon an expansive open plaza defines the International Style of architecture.
1913 Beaux Arts behemoth that features a vaulted ceiling depicting the signs of the zodiac.
New York City's tallest building in a defining Art Deco design from 1931.
Art Deco design incorporating elements of automobile imagery and a building spire that has been an icon of the city skyline since 1930.
LEVER HOUSE
390 Park Ave

Completed in 1952, the Lever House signaled a shift in office building design to the architectural modernism of the International Style. It was the first construction on Park Avenue in the shift to glass office towers of simple rectilinear formations and broad repetitive expanses of windows that formed gridded facades.
CENTRAL SYNAGOGUE
652 Lexington Ave. at 55th St.

A standard in Moorish inspired forms, this 1872 structure reflects Spanish architectural heritage of the Sephardic Jews.
CITIGROUP BUILDING
53rd St. at Lexington Ave.

1978 office tower is recognized in the skyline for its signature angle-topped light emanating glass roof. Its an example of failed function as an attempt to harvest of solar energy.
WANDERBUY
Unless you stick to the high 40's to 58th Street on Fifth Avenue, this is not the area to take a stroll and shop. Though Madison Avenue is famed for shopping, boutiques and shop are concentrated above 57th Street, the informal dividing line between Midtown East and the Upper East Side.
STOPTASTE
