MAPPETITE MEAL MINDER: LOBSTER ROLL 101

Published

It’s a long stretch from Maine to New York City, long enough for a lobster roll to lose a bit of its authenticity along the way. Likewise, the charms of the distinctly American “seafood shack” evaporate the further it drifts away from the seaside. That’s not to say that a lobster roll won’t hit your gustatory spot even if its a half day’s drive from where it’s likely to taste its best.

The ill-fated Philipe Chow (what the #$@#$ were they thinking with this slicker-than-need-be French-edged Chinese (which, was sort of good) on that service-minded strip of Sixth Avenue anyway?):
The less than mediocre and pedestrian Arte Pasta [...]

BRUTTI MA BUONI!

Published

Cantucci – toothsome Italian cookies – are biscotti with a soft touch.  Along with the brutti ma buoni (literally translating to “ugly but good”)  – the wonderfully crusty and chewy almond cookies – the Italian team of Il Cantuccio do their Tuscan ancestry culinary justice.  Once adjusted for new New World environs, these bakers have completely recharged our appreciation of the often brick-like sugary confection as dessert consolation prize to accompany an espresso and cappuccino.
Don’t [...]
